Now offering private paintings at your home in Detroit and nearby suburbs! Have you ever wanted to get into painting? Are you already into it and looking for some fresh approaches? Is there someone in your life that you would like to give a unique gift?

MAKING SPACE FOR CREATIVITY ++++++++++++++++++

IS A GIFT TO YOURSELF

I have been painting watercolors for 25 years - see the gallery below for some examples of my practice. While my medium of choice is watercolor, my approach to teaching is more broadly about cultivating creativity. A metaphor:

  1. SETTING THE STAGE

  2. TURNING ON THE LIGHTS

  3. SEEING WHAT’S THERE

  4. ALLOWING ELEMENTS TO PLAY

Painting and meditating on color help me through transitions and offer brightness on many a grey day. While working seasonally in the unique educational environments of artist residencies, I witnessed and experienced again and again the power of making a space for creativity and how it bonds people together.

This experience is customized to you! Possibilities:

  1. Dig into some new techniques - wet on wet, color theory, etc.

  2. Making a physical space in your home to paint in - a space for you to get boundless

  3. Imagination exercises, body postures, meditations

  4. Thinking differently about content - symbolism & narrative

Whatever your creative practice may be, it is medically proven to be good for your health. Get in touch with any questions or to see if this would be a good fit for you or someone you love.

I am an artist / musician from Detroit with a penchant for the outdoors. Having worked for 7 years seasonally with artist residencies in woodsy environments in Michigan and Maine, I find socializing + experimental art + nature to be a perfect combination for a good time. I combine my connection to sound with my most powerful tool: my IMAGINATION. I create playful spaces of conceptual art that are participatory and invite a connection with something easy to take for granted - our relationship to the natural world. Oh right, we are natural!

I am an artist/musician with 20+ years of experience making work, performing, and working in the arts. I am the front-person of the band Soft Location, and I perform solo, playing keyboards, drums, guitar and vocals, and rocks - like the kind you find at the beach. In 2009 I ran an experimental outdoor artspace called The Lot in North Corktown as a piece of public art. I have professional experience with established institutions like the Detroit Institute of Arts as an AV Technician & The Mattress Factory Museum in Pittsburgh in Exhibitions: Special Projects, as well as local initiatives Dabls' MBAD African Bead Museum, Sidewalk Festival & CMAP. I believe in hosting, sharing gifts, and in the importance of art outside typical art contexts.
